Speaking of Tony's machine - T2 with the 11" DD coil was just so easy to swing and is a ground scrubber. Made my Garrett AT PRO feel like a tank, a nice solid tank but still a tank!

The F2 coil pack worked out to be about $522 all up and still no DD coil or GB

I didn't do a very in depth search but for the F4 to import it, is US$399 for the unit US$70 freight total US$469 = NZ555.92 - Customs $121.46
total nz $677.38

So as Puiaki Supply is $540 for the F4 doesn't make sense to buy overseas, I'm sure that will appeal to your Avatar!

I've always believed buy the best you can with what you have. The biggest investment is time, getting to learn your machine.

Hopefully this is all correct.

F2 3 Coil Package

Cost $275USD = $325NZD
Ship $50USD = $60NZD

Sub Total $325NZD
+ Ship $ 60NZD
Total $385.00NZD (for a 3 Coil F2 Package (includes Bag Headphones etc)

Nothing extra to pay - So if the local fisher dealer can deliver the same package to my door for under $400 I may be interested, otherwise I will continue to shop where selection is plentiful & prices are competitive -

NZ$15 is a pretty small tolerance before the extra charges get added, might be good today, might not be tomorrow.
Especially as the freight price I had was US$69.

Everyone should have choice I agree with that - I'm simply suggesting in my opinion the better choice and the F2 is not it.
Plenty of people that love the F2, plenty of people that have moved on as well.

Thank you Guardian, sycotoad, et al.

For what its worth, since I asked the original question that kicked off this stream I've moved on a bit in my thinking and will probably go a bit more upmarket - possibly to a multi-purpose unit like a Teknetics G2 or a Goldbug Pro.

On the subject of the "import or buy local" debate, I've been having a look at the NZ Customs website and it seems that although metal detectors are zero rated for import duty, GST of 15% is payable if it amounts to $60 or more. What that means is that they can (and I guess they probably will!) hit you for GST if the combined cost of the purchase and freight/postage is $NZ400 or more. And wait for it.... that's not all! When duty or GST is payable, they also hit you with the MPI biosecurity levy and the Customs import entry transaction fee. The combined fee will increase from $38.07 (GST inclusive) to $46.89 (GST inclusive) this year (if it hasn't already done so). So an import totalling $NZ400 purchase price and postage/freight attracts tax and fees of $NZ106.89; an import totalling $NZ1,000 purchase price and postage/freight attracts tax and fees of $NZ196.89.

That's a good move, more learning but still a good move, I read somewhere they have the same boards (not sure about software).
The problem is there always seems to be that machine that is just that bit more.

totally agree with what you are saying - I was simply highlighting the fact that you can get a F2 into the country without paying customs/duty/gst - as for the $15.00 tolerance - I am sure you will find the sellers will work in with your shipping requests - Its something avidly advertise

I am sure the F4 is certainly a great machine - In fact all of the detectors I have used have all been great in their own way - However the F4 is almost double the cost of the F2 so is it worth the extra for the manual GB & 11"DD coil?

Don't get me wrong Guardian - I absolutely love all the Fisher F series - I suppose it all comes down to which run you started on the ladder, so to speak

Sure plenty of people have moved on from the F2's - not unusual as they are a introductory machine

No worries G -

I have only had my Lesche for a month or so - I got it when I ordered some accessories, however recently I was given a Wilcox All Pro No 202 SS Digger and these things rock - Honestly they make a Lesche look like a toy
