Hi all I found this photo I took a few years ago of about 4 ounces dredge from me claim.

Lots and lots of hard work to get this result.

I have not long sold my 5 inch dredge and are now starting to build a small three inch which will be a hell of a lot easyer to use.

The old time miners needed around an ounce or so every week to meet the basic living cost. Many failed in in there quest and hard living was very widespread in the gold feilds.

How fortunate are we in this peirod of time living in this beautiful country.

Cheers Steve

Hi Steve,

One day I'll have a bag like this! All I've got so far is small flakes from my efforts and a few "pickers" but I'll be on a mission to change that in the spring when I plan to go feral for a few weeks in the bush ;)

Thanks for the inspiration. Don't think I'll ever sell anything I find - just enjoy the missions.

Gav ;)

Cheers Gavin,

When I first got started I would spend a weekend in the river and bring home a few colours.

I would show me friends my finds and they would look and me as if I had lost the plot!

What gold?, cant see any thing in there.

Keep at it Gavin, we all learn something on every adventure.

Cheers again for the great site.

Steve

G'day Steve, Ha Ha you must have the same friends as me. My mates think Im a bloody idiot for doing what I do & travelling to the south island to do it. They have all missed the point.....that it aint all about finding enough to make money. If that is ment to be it will be....if it doesnt, I dont dwell on it but soak up the beautiful places it takes me to & the neat people I meet along the way.
Im off down south at 3am friday.
Happy hunting.

JW :)
