can anyone tell me how short you can make a sluicebox and still have it work. would shorter and more riffles work better than short with less riffles

thanks for the reply but I don't want a long one. want it short as possible to be easy to carry without getting hooked up on branches and bushes etc.

I saw a small sluicebox,no longer than 800 and 300 wide being used over the weekend...home made..alloy expanded mesh over miners moss and the riffles were about 400 long. the box was made of plywood and at the end of the day the owner took the moss and the mesh and left the rest till next year...5gms of gold in a few hours of lazy shovelling. He was putting the material through slowly, not overloading the box and 90% of the gold was in the first few cms of the sluice so maybe your box doesnt need to be as long as you think...

Hi,
I have several different sluice boxes of different lengths and widths.
My opinion is forget them all and get a small Bazooka gold trap. They make 3 sizes and all lightweight and catch down to gold dust size pieces. The only negative I have found is the need a fast flow to keep the gravels flowing through. But biggest positive is no classifying required and your material volume is very high. Good Luck

That ply disposable box is a great idea.
But I think an alumium(sic) stealth sluice would be even better, so light you wouldn't even notice the weight.
Mini Bazooka sizes

I love the look of these - cut the length in half, and add more corners/ripples.
