Yep, 10m below high tide mark on a popular beach...Nowhere near Spain.
Can only assume it was from one of the early whalers/sealers

Problem is, I don't have any sort of bucket list now.
I'm never going to top this, so I'm closing this thread off, and seriously considering growing orchids or something less adrenalin-inducing!

Cheers guys.

I always GPS and record depth of any decent finds in case they turn into the start of something significant.
However, the slow spirals well out from the coin and the button were both totally silent, even with sensitivity racked up to "twitchy".
These are apparently random drops (I did think of the Kelly Tarlton theft, but this was too far down for that context).

Spain hasn't got a claim to NZ just yet! :)

Nice dream, but when this one was minted, Cook had already done his package tour of NZ and was back in Blighty with his slippers on and a cup of tea trying to think of some marketing ideas for emigration :)

Not interested in a chest of them - everyone knows chests of Aztec silver and gold are cursed :)

Ran it through the 'machine' and am very impressed with their smelting purity back in the day.

Most likely is the child was stolen from his father - a coin collector, this coin on the beach and lost!
