Just got this follow up email in the inbox...
Posting it here for anyone that hasn't seen or heard bout it....

Hi there.
As a follow up to my last email where we spoke of the need for a metal detecting club in Canterbury and our attempts to get one off the ground.
I'd like to remind you that a few of us intend to meet up for a drink and a chat next Sunday evening (25th March) and hopefully, depending on support,
thereafter on the last Sunday of each month. This will take place at the Papanui Working Mens Club in Sawyers Arms Rd at around 7.30.
This venue seems to be pretty central to where most detectorists live, is free for us to use, and doesnt have live music or loud piped music to try to talk over.
Steve and myself will be there and one or two others have said they would like to come along.
There would be no agenda, just a chance to meet up initially and get to know each other.
Please try to come along...if you're anything like me, the chance to meet like minded folk and talk about finds etc is too good to be missed.
We will try to site ourselves in a corner and in order to help identify ourselves to others,
will have a copy of a detecting magazine 'The searcher' with us which will be on view either on the table or if need be, on the floor. (Surely you cant miss that!!)
Give it some thought. We genuinely hope to see you there and put a face to some of the many names I have.

I would love to, but it's my wife's birthday on the 25th.
Hopefully it goes well enough to have another next month - I would be a starter for that!

Cheers

Apologys from myself also - lol ;)

Hope a few still got along, I know Oroplata went - got a txt from him saying " Your Late!"

We will have to try again, maybe a meeting out in the field somewhere with the detectors/pans/crevice devices in hand instead? ^^

5 of us turned up, you bunch of pikers.

Decided to organise a Hagley Park mass-detectorist visit the weekend AFTER Easter onthe Saturday, so mark it in your diaries NOW.

Very strong showing from Rangiora, including a half and full sovereign. Swoon.

Simon here, new member introducing myself. Great site!

Got to admit, morning would suit me a lot better, say 8 ish. Happy to go with the majority though.

Never had the balls to do Hagley Park alone but would feel quite excited about having a go with a few others.

Great to meet a few of you Sunday night, thoroughly enjoyed it. Steves little box of locally found goodies were an inspiration to us all. Here's hoping a few more come along next month.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

I spent a short time at Hagley yesterday around midday (went to a shaded spot and got bitten by so many mossies that I got pissed off and went home). While there a guy walking past came up to me and said he was interested in detecting, had a fisher goldbug and had used it up the Moonlight.

So there's ANOTHER detectorist coming out of the woodwork!

Here's an idea - how about this Sunday, we hit Brighton Beach at the spot Poohbear found the fake greek/roman coins and see if we can pull any more up? Weather permitting, of course.

I have wondered how many are in the woodwork in Auckland.

Have sent you a PM NZPB. A few people have expressed an interest in a group Hagley hunt which will happen the weekend after Easter, but a morning time start seems more popular with most. Is this going to be a non starter for you with your work commitments?
