it might indeed have to wait til after winter though. i have done about 7 or 8 trips over to dunedin this year and travelled most ways possible (still have to do the original route - dunstan trail). did middlemarch way for the first time. not sure why i never went that way before as its stunning and no one is around.

it's not as cold around here as it would usually be but that can change pretty quick. i see a bit of fresh snow on the peaks around here this morning. trying hard to get the courage to get out to the river. not looking forward to getting in. that's the hard part at this time of year. not so bad once you get busy and are in. well, i better get out there. trying to make a day of it. such a nice day i'm sure i will see people out there today.

When next in Dunedin give me a scream and come and see me.

I went up to my place today and friends there before me. I went with another two friends but we got there later - We didnt get much time but I got over 2 grammes and gave it all away...Dontcha love Gold bugs they save me a lot of work.

Years ago we used to go Across the Dunstan Track through to Arrowtown on our way to some of our bi annual trips to Macetown over the period of the 1970s - we used to go over the Dunstan Track at night spotlighting all the way...you cant do that today!

You know me well enough if you havent as yet cottoned on and you are welcome to come and try mine out any time you want to come and can find time to get your head,,,Oops detector out of the sand of the beach.

UserPostedImage

So, just read all the comments, and can see some people got of track of the idea for my webpage :=)))) so.. i will try to put simpel bullet points on how i am plannign to structure website (again just raft)

* Big Logo on main page for NZ metal detecting. :
Anyone who has drawing skills, Photoshop skills- more than welcome to submit your creation,
* Big button "FORUM" linking to HERE....so no movement from here.
* BLOGS - whoever would like to have their blog to be on my webpage- can give me aproval and i will add.
* Part of page with all usfull links like: Tide charts,
* Directory of MEtal Detectorists who would like to be contacted publicly for service
- again i am planning to write to city councils, police and all Insurance companys once website is build and advertise as Specialists contractors across NZ.
* Page with "RETURNED items with photoes and stories" <------THis can be either hosted on my page OR finder posts it on their BLog /FORUm or anywhere and i Link to website.

That should/will create good image of metal detectorists and should give us room for some searches in areas where we were not allowed before. :-)

At the moment only Pilot page up : http://metaldetecting.co.nz/

So in essence you are planning to create a portal for metal detecting and/ or md services in NZ.
Could work - give it a go.
Funding might be tricky.

Thanks Chris, That is the phrase- "portal for metal detecting and/ or md services in NZ"

In regards Funding - i have become really pasionate about this hobby and and finding Stuff :-) o at this stage i spent 250$ for 1 year hosting+domain and no further funding required (i hope)

In terms of askign people for money being listed on the website- No, i would not . we are a small community and i am happy to support from you in any other way :-)

Once everythign created and i send all info to interested parties - we should be getting decent amount of interest.

Just stay tuned guys.
Give me all advice, and we might get even some support from Minelab/Fisher/Garret - as i will put their ads on web page and that should generate some money or gifts from them- so we can run competitions , real treasure hunting come togathers etc....

Max I had a go at setting up a portal for the cleaning industry in NZ some years
ago. The site is getting a bit old now but it might give you a few idea's of what to do and what not to do.

We could have a membership fee (doesn't have to be much) and get some badges made up - I have some from when I was in the USA from the Hunting and Fishing clubs. Makes it easier to recognize people than having to use a secret handshake on everyone you meet!

It's 2012. Don't use a template style that went out of fashion 10 years ago!

I tend to agree.
A new site needs to be the latest trends or else it is just
out of date before it starts. Unfortunately I suspect you may find that latest trends can cost
quite a bit of money unless you have a tame website designer.
Just a thought. ;-)

I have really enjoyed this site for the gold and detector treasures people post, keeps me motivated. And I have learned quite a bit from people sharing their expertise. But things change, in this case it sounds like for the better, so I say if you are motivated go for it Drunk Brother! Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
