Hi All, I believe I'm the newest member of this forum and as so, just wanted to say a big "Hi" to all the members. I don't even have my detector yet (picking it up next week) but keen to get into it as soon as possible. I had a detector when I was about 16 and had a few interesting finds around Auckland, North Shore and the Waikato (mostly coins and some military stuff). Now some 30 years later, I'm keen to get fired up with the detecting bug all over again!
I read that some Canterbury detector enthusiasts are looking at start up a club of sorts. I now live in Christchurch and would be keen to join such a club. When and where is the next meeting? Cheers, Andrew (number8wire)

hi andrew and wellcome to the forums....the next meeting is the last sunday of the month around 730ish at the papanui workermans club... It is off saywer's arms rd closer to the airport end...got to watch it as the rd is split into two..if coming from town end up sawyers arm's rd you will come to a dead end...it continues on again the other side of the dead end towards airport..lol

also i think it is now just called papanui club/bowling club...instead of workermans club

also alot of us get together quit often for day and night hunts...you are more than wellcome to come along...

also if you send me a PM with your cell number i will add you on my phone so i can let you know whenever i am going out for a hunt incase you want to join along.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Natalia and Expat, Thanks for the welcome. Seems to be a pretty proactive little group of Cantabs on this forum. Looking forward to meeting and greeting some new faces at the end of the month.
I did a fair bit of research and read a lot of reviews on various units before deciding. I ended up getting a Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger (which I'll pick up in Dunedin in a couple of weeks). I chose the Stinger because I like the versatility it offers and because it seems to be one of the units that you need to spend a bit of time getting to know and to appreciate.....I like that added challenge!
Cheers, Number8.

Well remembered Ash.

I guess we'd better stick a reminder post up somewhere this weekend.

Yep, batteries all charged....

Well bugger me!.......Was running extremely late for the meeting due to unforeseen circumstances, and ended up missing you guys by a mere 10 minutes....according to the barmaid at the Papanui Club. I hit the lounge bar about 8.35........thought you may have still been there but no such luck.

Picked up my detector (Garrett Scorpion Stinger) on Thursday and used it today around our home built in 1923. Easy-as detector to use! No gold yet but found lots of old stuff including an old silver plated spoon, the metal portion of an old gas lamp and an old axe-head amongst other stuff. Itching to get out and about with it now.

Dammit. So sorry we missed you, ordinarily we would have been there till around 9.30 but had arranged to leave a little early to do some night time exploring. We were only round the corner too.
I think this might well be the case next time too as several members suggested making this hunt a regular feature.

As per usual I found sod all.

Bugger.....On the glass half full side, I guess it gives me a month's practice, and a good chance to get some better work stories before I meet you guys! Serves me right for not logging in on Saturday too I suppose........would've seen the "MD meet 24th June" thread then. I'll put it down to another learning experience.
