Are the ChCh earthquakes moving north .. or did we just feel the after effects of another big one in ChCh?

on a lesser scale we had a quake in queenstown today. a measly 2.3 at 5km deep. the interesting thing is the location. the base of the remarkables. to me i think it is pretty obvious something made the remarkables. i think there is a fault running across the bottom of the remarks and up along the edge of lake hayes and up into sawpit gully behind arrowtown and into the arrow gorge.

there was a quake the other day too. right under the branches station homestead on the shotover river. that one was a bit bigger at 3.8, at 5km deep also.

let's hope the 7.o tonight doesn't have any buddies. a pre-quake i think they call it. the 7.0 was awefully deep. must nearly have been the edge of the crust? i wonder how thick the crust at the epicentre?

I wonder if all that excitement is going to fire up Ruapehu again.

We must be due for a bit of volcanic activity.

Yeah - imagine when the alpine fault lets go and moves up 8 metres in one go. Woot. Time to go tramping with a pick!
