Yes, you kind of have to take what you get; pretty hard to set out to find something in particular. The two evenings I was out this week I was hoping to find some silver but only found one silver coin, a not so great three pence. But I found $27. And even though I would like to have found a pocket full of half crowns and rings like Poohbear or even a token (have never found one), $27 is $27. So I am still feeling pretty motivated.

Nice haul indeed and all nicely dated. From memory i think Crisyboy found one of those H J Hall trade tokens recently up here in Kerikeri.
.

I havent found a trade token with my detector but i found this aussy one just lying on a gravel driveway. It has been hit by a big mower.

Hi All. Went away for the long weekend and hit the local domain (established 1877) near where we set up camp. Had an awesome few hours in the sun and scored some really nice stuff. Nine silvers in all.....my best ever haul to date. Also lots of 1c & 2c but only four pennies...all NZ ones too.....very odd.

My first Brit Florin-1901
Aussie sixpence- 1940
Brit sixpence x 3- 1866, 1873 & one unreadable
NZ Shilling x 2- 1933 & 1945
NZ sixpence- 1946
NZ Half Crown- 1934

A beautiful little sterling silver enameled butterfly brooch.............and..................
Another H.J.Hall token in superb nic! Couldn't believe pulling this token out as it is my fourth token in a week, and the third H.J. Hall Token....all three have been different designs too! Was very surprised to get this, as this domain is quite a long way from Chch......but certainly not as far as Kerikeri!!!

Cheers mate. Here's a closeup but still undateable. Bust does face left however so I'm guessing a young Vic.

the butterfly brooch is probably by Charles horner, around 1920s. They have enamelled finish and sell for around 200 pounds and higher on ebay.. Just needs a brooch pin put back on.

Hi Tony. Thanks for the info.
Yeah....there appears to be a two letter hallmark or makers ID before the word "sterling" but they are faint and quite worn. I'll do a bit of research and see what I can find..........a stunningly intricate and beautiful wee brooch nonetheless.

Yep........no doubt about it, it's a Charles Horner design for sure. I can now clearly make out the "C.H" before the sterling....it's amazing how clear it becomes once you know what to look for. Thanks again Tony.

Yep, right up to and including 1887 when the silly looking jubilee head type was launched. The young head was re engraved a few times in that time but no differences discernable to us mere mortals.

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my collection for what I told her it cost me.

Hi all. Have been away down South again on a very compact and busy work trip this week. Had a few hours after work to swing the coil, and hunted parks in Balclutha, Oamaru and Orari. Scored myself 11 silvers but nothing spectacular. Also, a whole bunch of pennies, lots of 1 and 2c's and $8 spendies....plus the usual assortment of other crap filling my pocket!
The best find was this Ford pin badge (pin and screw-dome attached) from what I'm guessing will be the 30's...maybe 40's?
It has the old Ford logo and in a scroll below, says "for service". It has the badge makers name engraved on the back behind the dome...."Moller & Young, CH-CH".
This company is still in existence today, and has been going for over 100 years in Christchurch.
I'm guessing the badge could have been given for long service to a Ford dealership employee?
Any other ideas welcomed.

Hi Chris.....check your PM's for an answer.......and yes Tony, I'll try all the delaying tactics possible, so that Poohbear doesn't get all the good stuff in Dunedin!.....lol ;)

Another great half day on Sunday.........out in the sun with Roy, digging history at Hagley.
Along with the usual assortment of pennies, half pennies, 1 & 2c's and general crap, came these "happy place" finds;

Sterling silver NZ pin badge.
An 1887 Brit sixpence that has been converted into a cufflink.
A very old silver ring. I don't think it's broken. I think it's the type you could size to suit your finger.
and...
A nice wee 1919 Brit threepence.

Yes indeed......another happy day in my happy place!

..........and on Sunday night after the club meeting, it was down to the local park to seek fame and fortune...... but only Poohbear actually did this though! Hope he gets the pics up on the forum soon......the wait to see his find, all cleaned up will be worth it!
Meanwhile, I think most of us scored at least one silver that evening........here's mine!......plus two Aussie pennies (1917 and 1921) currently soaking in olive oil.
