They are a good detector when you get used to them as long as all is in good order. Go online and get a operating manual and spend plenty of time reading it, it can take some time learning to understan the machine. They are an old detector and can be a bit frustateing. I had one in the eighties and found a bit gold, not enough to retire but enough to pay its way. Now the machine gathers dust in the wardrobe, its a lot easier with the minelab.. Cheers, goodluck

Hey - I have a couple of the box coils to turn one of these old Garrets into a 2 box machine if anyone interested, no frame though.

A grand detector - Only yesterday I loaned one to a farmer in South Canterbury so he could locate a well head with it - I found a great many coins with mine in the 1980s and 1990s as well as others things, rings, jewelery and so on.

To a large degree they were 'The' detector alongside the Whites 6000 and the smaller original Goldbug. The Garrett Deepseeker and the Whites were extremely popular in Australia and were forever getting mentioned in the Pix magazine.

I found my Garrett Deepseeker a lot easier to use than the Minelab but that is largely due to the sound it makes. The discrimination I found to be simplicity itself and it took me a very short time to master it.

I find the discrimination a thousand times easier to work than other detectors BUT unless you have sharp ears to detect subtle differences in tone you are going to dig heaps of tabs and tops. I also learnt to dig them anyway because you just dont know! A few pull tabs I dug turned out to be coins so I simply differentiate between ferrous and non ferrous and dig all non ferrous and in that way there is no doubt.

On the contrary I think that if you are somewhat deaf then the Garrett Deepseeker is a better machine to use than a Minelab - I know as I blew myself up once and shattered my eardrums or whatever happens to them and am as deaf as a post. It also didnt help when I spent three days non stop on a rifle range with .303 rifles and Bren guns hammering in my ears either and for weeks after all i could hear was a ringing sound...back in those days only sissies used earmuffs - if they were even invented!
