I usually seem to end up by rivers after a flood and have often wondered how much more pay dirt would be revealed after a prolonged dry spell. Did anyone find that the recent low river levels made a significant difference?

there must be a few guys having a chuckle.

it's been so dry that theres stuff exposed that is never seen.

down here this has followed on by a good flood in january.

forum also goes quiet as everyones out making the most of it before winter sets in.

you just have to make the most of the small windows of opportunity whilst the weather prevails.

think of all those deep pools. i've seen some recently that have stuff all water remaining. makes life a lot easier if you're trying to get to the bottom.

With the big rivers, I always think of the damming of the Kawerau and also the Clutha at Roxburgh which yielded very little gold though that was partly due, in the case of the Kawerau in particular, to the river not drying out completely. In 1968, after the Inangahua earthquake the Buller was blocked by a landslip and rose about 30 metres. I seem to recall that a few people, who were obviously not risk averse, tried their hand below the slip but I do not know whether anything much was found.
