okay so a coupla weeks ago i spent a few hours on a monday arvo in the water, beaut weather an all but no colour. To be fair i was only digging with a trowel and then panning and wading in my jandals and shorts haha. Gonna have another attempt shortly - may have been digging in the wrong place but was relaxing anyway

Hey ther dave ive spent a bit of time up the waka, ive found that the motor camp isnt too bad. i know of a guy who found a 1 gram nugget there not long ago but any place u go up the waka like most places you are basically wasting your time if dont dig down to bedrock. Another good spot is where deep creek meets the wakamarina river but dont go more than 100m upstream because a claim starts there. Hope that helps
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

I appologise about my comment 'you are basically wasting your time if dont dig down to bedrock' I still belive this to be true in most places. However you will find a whole heap of small specks amongst the gravel, also shold you be so lucky as to find a patch of gravel that has a lot of clay (up to 30 percent id say)with larger boulders through it then you will find gold above bedrock. Generally speaking however if you are in shallow gravels that are not cemented then the majority of the gold will be resting on the bedrock. At least thats what ive found
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Hi JW and fellow diggers,
I have not long moved out of the waka valley as the winter is fast approaching....,getting soft in me old age!!.Had six months there with some good and not so good days.Best day detecting about 8 grams, which came from a small semi exposed ledge.Total detected around 128 grams.Dredging was crap to say the least, lost me gear and a lot of good ground now under massive amounts of overburden.
At the mo I am working at a top ten park at Orere point at the base of the Coro.Great place good fishing and weather but no gold!!!
Looking foward to heading back down South at christmas and finding some sweet spots,I can only dream about it at present BUGGER!!!
Take care Steve

OK. All this talk of Butchers Flat means I have to give it a go - this Thursday. If anyone else is scratching around there (particularly if you have found the perfect spot)do say hello. Have a red sentra wagon. Cheers S.

Gooday Steve.

Your last message in this Forum seems to be completely out of focus?
(As it made no sense to me at least)
Was it meant to be a private message that went astray somehow?

Welcome to the Coromandel.

Cheers---Colin.
