I've been lurking in the forums the last couple of months but thought it was time to register so I could pass on something that I'd just heard that may not be common knowledge.

Starting Monday 14 October, the council is closing Kohi Beach during work hours (7.30am-5pm) to move 4000 cubic metres of sand from the eastern end and spread it again at the western end.

Should take 1-2 weeks.

That should give everything a good shake up eh?

I've heard a story and I don't know how true it is. But it was either Mission Bay or Kohimarama Beach during the Missionary days. There was a Missioary been rowed ashore and the boat flipped at low tide mark during rough weather. The Missionary lost a small bag of gold coins. It is rumoured that metal detectors have found a few gold coins. Don't want to start a false gold rush here. But it won't hurt to look in to this one.

I am reasonably sure that some sovs were found there some years ago.
These beaches have been detected for so many years now that I would think
the chance of a find like that pretty remote but I suppose not impossible.

Those who were hunting the waterfront back in the 40's, 50's and 60's must have found soooo much cool stuff.
