Im from Christchurch about to head to the North Island for 4 weeks holiday. Heading up East Coast and back down the West Coast. Any suggestions from anyone about places I could try with my relatively new detector.

Hi Snowdrop. East coast is a big place, bound to be plenty of beaches along the way. Good luck in your travels hope you find big.

Gisborne and north up the coast is well worth the drive, Tolaga bay, well worth an ice cream stopand walk along the warf, Anarua bay is worth a stop, great sand beach, and 2 camp sites to choose from. Tokomaru bay is worth stopping at as well, wonder around the old Union steam ships buildings, Waiparo bay is worth seeing, site of the first Odean theatre in NZ. There are hot pools at Te Puia Springs, East cape light house is probably worth the detour, andalso a stop at Hicks Bay.
