Hi all!

Now that I have your attention, I'm heading to Blenheim arriving in Picton on the 11:30am ferry on Wednesday. I was hopping there was someone who would be happy to come along for a pan and some basic crevicing with me. I'm VERY enthusiastic and inquisitive but have never had a good chance to find any colour or had the invaluable company of a more experienced fossicking veteran. :)

So, if there is anyone willing to go out for a few hours with a very keen and go lucky chap please let me know!

I'm bringing along a rock hammer a couple of 33cm pans, a large Garrett Super Sluice pan and a hell of a lot of enthusiasm!

I look forward to hearing from you great folks in the Marlborough Region :)

Thx overdog. Hope you find some time over the weekend to head out for a bit of fun.

Just arrived in Porirua after a nice drive down from Auckland. I'm getting very excited at the prospect of setting foot in gold country on Wednesday. I'm praying to the rain God to let there be a break in the weather so I get a good chance at rummaging around. The place I've read the most about on here Is the Wakamarina so unless someone can give me some better place to look that's where I'm headed!

Hey dettol, best of luck, recommend staying at and starting from, the pinedale motorcamp up the Wakamarina. They have river access which is somewhat limited up there, and all important "local knowledge" too. It's winter though, and rain is not as likely as really cold rain/snow in the next few days, fingers crossed for ya, have fun.

That's some really great info/advice kiwikeith, thank you!

Now I need to look all those places up and review my options..

Hahaha, good on ya KraziKiwi, your gold Is safe don't worry. I'm as green as they come and frankly I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised If all I ended up doing Is moving dirt around in my pan and dumping the gold back in the river hahaha

8.4gs is an awesome weekend and a bloody good effort considering, as you mentioned, the temperature! Hope you continue your success and enjoy yourself! :)

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm a small chicken simply looking for a spec of colour. If I were to get 2 specs I would be over the moon. Any more than that and I will be moving to Marlborough!!! Hahaha..

Dettol,
the Pinedale motor camp is closed for the winter.
You might want to camp in the small camping area behind the Trout Pub,main road turn off to the waka valley,

Im sleeping in my car and I was only considering the motorlodge for river access and to park my car. Would you say I will be able to access the river there or should I look elsewhere?

Hey Dettol, you might want to try around dead man's creek area, which is just past Pinesdale up Wakamarina valley. There is a track down to the main river [from the bridge], and the bedrock is relatively exposed there. I found some good specks sluicing the clay material near bedrock. Look for the dirty clay stuff. Good luck!
