Just found this beauty at the Warehouse $25.
You can have either the pick or shovel folded out, or both as in the birds eye photo below.
Pick end 100mm, shovel 95x130mm.
Packs down into the carry satchel (160x100mm), has a belt loop.

Only issue is the velcro flap - I'll probably replace that with a button fly (like jeans).
Though I guess the tool is heavy enough not to leap out.
I'll let you know how badly it rusts.

I shelled out for the original army surplus one - works very well!

However, I did buy a cheapie off Trade Me before that and it quickly bent then broke first proper go I had with it :( Hope yours is a bit better than the cheapie I had.

Good point - I never considered the ends bending.
I'm headed back to Auckland and we have an Army Surplus store in K Rd - I'll check out their supplies and report back.

Return it to the warehouse and get a refund. I brought the exact same one a couple of years back and the first time i used it was out in the bush to lever up a rock that was no bigger than 2 fists in size and rivets snapped like twigs. As far as folding shovels go, Military surplus ones (esp German army) are the ones to get.

Yep, I didn't want to take the risk.

Looks like Gavin got onto these great things over in /equipment a while back.
