First time posting, been lurking since we registered. User name is where we had our first real luck, doing a family trip last year. Location was suggested by the backpackers manager were we stayed at in Hokitika.

We are now heading backdown next week for another trip by ourselves on motorcycles. Destination is Haast as we have to get the usual fishing and paua gathering out of the way first. Then crawling back up the west coast with no particular plan fossicking with our pans. We were thinking of just doing a rough gather of blacksand, then finish it off when we get home to Rotorua.

Looking for advice on where are there other spots like Goldsborough, we really enjoyed it.
Also would getting one of these, http://www.trademe.co.nz...sting.aspx?id=805752938.
Are they available in the shops on the west coast?

have you had a look in the locations section of paydirt. lists the public areas. that's a start. not sure if you get classifiers on the coast. I know its not hard to get pans. try the warehouse or mitre 10. you could use a cheap vegetable strainer or something like that if theres nothing around.

Did the shopping thing today, not much available similiar to what we wanted in a classifier. So we have McGyverd a bucket and drilled holes in a bowl that fits in the bucket. The idea that we reduce the size, pan roughly down to sand, collect it and let the boy's pan it when we get home.

Trawled through the locations link and saved the links to the locations we will be passing and will look at them before we go. Things looking good, now sorting fishing stuff etc.

Thanks guys.
