Hi, I need to replace my 10" coil on my Minelab Sovereign GT. (I've worn out my existing one through years of use.) Anyone got any recommendations?

Gidday tonz.

I had a bit of work done on my Sovereign a few years ago by the blokes at Detection Solutions in Harris Road, East Tamaki. You can google them to get a contact address. They were really obliging in the one dealing I had with them. At least if you contact them, you have something to compare any other offers to.

try miners den in melbourne, you dont have to pay the gst and postage is about 40aus for a 10 inch coil, they are awsome and very quick to ship. i have bought many coils from there.

Hi there, Doesnt your coil have a replaceable skid plate? Saves you having to replace the whole coil when it wears through.

JW :)

And if not, just get some body filler or epoxy potting compound and make yourself a new bottom for the coil.

As long as you haven't worn it through so far that you've damaged the wires themselves.

Hey there tonznz hope you manage to get your sovereign sorted out. Where in dunedin do you go with your detector? Beach or parks?
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Thanks all. Detection solutions seems to have dropped off the radar. Website was down and email bounced. I'll try miners den, melbourne. Sounds like a good recommendation.

Unfortunately my skid plate wore out and by the time I got around to replacing it the coil base had worn to an extent that the resin inside had cracked and the machine is faulting.

Can't complain as its been a work horse and looks rough as guts.

I metal detect around beaches, school bark playgrounds (I take my kids so I've never had anyone question me) .

Interesting coin. I bet it has a story to tell!

Here's one listed in a sale (in better condition) http://www.adacoins.ru/c...ll=0&aid=16&ap=0

Lot #206 US$350

5 копеек

You can click on the coin for a highres image of it.

You one is from the same mint I think? E.M.

The other side has "ФХ" on it the same as this one?

Yes it does. It does have those images. The other coins: One with the hole in it is a 1867 napoleon 111 coin. There is a couple double florins from 1891. No gold yet, but there is always hope. Some of the other coins I can't pick the dates but some feature a younger Queen Victoria.

Hi all, just ordered my new 10" tornado coil for my MINELAB Sovereign GT from Miners den, Melbourne. Dealt with a guy called Ian. Ordered off the webpage and he emailed me back the cost of freight. $29AU for freight.

Can't wait to get it.

When goods arrive in NZ customs may ask me to pay customs duty which is would in this case be mainly GST, with a small duty fee as well. However most items which have a little amount of calculated GST tend to escape paying anything. If the value of the goods in the package including the cost of freight is under a certain amount they tend to escape any customs fees (duty and GST). So I am fairly confident I will pay nothing in the way of customs duty, but if I do it won't be much.

For those who haven't bought from overseas before I'll let you know how it all works out.

By the way I tried to get in contact via the internet with the CHCH Miners Den, but were as hard to make contact with as the illusive Ak firm talked about earlier.

you wont pay duty as there is no industry here, and customs only pursue items that incur a gst charge of over $40

Ah good old NZ Customs...I have a detector coming in from the States and I am quite ripped at how much GST is going to add to that price. Still a good price mind you, but I like it better when I don't think of the GST on top of it!

Actually, I think you'll find the offence is the false declaration itself, not the asking for it.

Being the person paid them (via a traceable electronic transaction) more than what was on the invoice, they'd have a hard job using the "I didn't know it was worth more" defence.

Talking about the offending on a freely accessible web forum open to perusal by customs staff = bad idea.

Everytime someone avoids paying GST and duty on personal imports, they cause the govt to look elsewhere for the revenue (through other taxes that aren't as efficient as GST). And it puts local suppliers at a further disadvantage.

Back in action. At the beaches. New coil. Got it from the Ak outfit in the end. The Au sites wouldn't sell to me due to licencing agreements with minelab. Happy though to be back in action. Goal for next six months is for me to find a gold sovereign. I'll certainly post it up if ever I do.
