Surgeons investigating pains in a mans left arm 51 years after he crashed his 1963 Ford Thunderbird, found the cars turn signal lever embedded in it.
The man of Granite City, Illinois, smashed his T-bird into a truck and its thought the broken hip he suffered drew the attention away from the arm, which eventually healed.
A decade or so ago, his arm set off a metal detector at a courthouse. An X-ray showed a slender object the length of a pencil, but since it caused no pain or hardship, he was told to let it be.
However, after moving concrete blocks a few weeks ago the arm began to hurt and his wife said, "the arm started bulging" .
He looked at old photos of the smashed Thunderbird and noticed the 18 centimetre lever was missing from the steering column.
The surgery confirmed his suspicions, though hes not sure what he'll do with the lever.
