So this a post about rubbish. I think the picture explains it well enough.

Compare to the amount of early 1900's - 1950's crap we dig... Says a lot about modern 'civilisation'.

I throw a handful of spacejunk in the bin every trip.

I keep all my spacejunk in a square plastic box, seems to be a source of amusement for guests as they like to rumage thru it.

My barn looks the same, as spacejunk.

Lol! I went to a park a few weeks ago and I found 32 cans! Annoying. There's someone going around detecting and leaving his holes open which is what is giving us such a bad name.

What part of Auckland are the open holes in LKD? We can all keep an eye out
to re educate the hunter perhaps.

Yeah, spotted a minefield of 8" square patches of dead turf locally the other week too.

The "Treasure Hunter" had obviously used a spade and scalped the grass off before digging, then laid the now condemned turf back on top like a badly fitting toupe.

Not doing us any favours whatsoever.....

Metal Kiwi- Titirangi and parts of Glen Eden
They are becoming less frequent, but this is becoming annoying. I will admit I am young for the hobby- and I reckon the people doing it are most likely my age as well, but that still is not an excuse.

Yeah tis real annoying. However in my experience usually new hunters will change if you politely tell them
spades in parks is a not on. There was the same problem around Pt Chev
a few months back but has stopped now as far as I know.

Very true. When I first started I was over the top and only dug in soil under trees- found some spendable so though. I actually have seen a detector ist up not all sure if the actual person doing the digging. They were at a school that has open holes everywhere- my brothers says his friends have discovered rusty nails and rusted tubes on the ground recently. I didn't see much of the person though. Ill ask my brother- he hasn't complained about it as much. I don't reckon this is the person because they have a very nice X-terra, so I just can't tell.

Found a park out west with craters all over it today. I know that it was a detectorist as there were 1c pieces in the bottom of some holes. Photo doesn't capture the dinner plate size of the holes.
To be fair I think that the lawnmower may have thrown the clods out.

I think unless we get a couple of rain days this week then park hunts will be over for the year. I don't usually cross my fingers for rain....... so long as it rains during the week and not on the weekend I don't mind.

Yes its very dry out in the open areas already. Amongst the trees and under the leaf litter is still damp soil.

Hi LKD, I don't intentionally reveal my locations online as anyone can view these discussions and I wouldn't want to start a stampede LOL but not too far away from the ones that you mentioned.

Was my first time there, due to the damage I didn't stick around for long as I didn't want to get the blame for the big holes. I did try under tthe trees and it was just pulltabs and rusty nails everywhere.

You might hate me, I plan to use a spade in a park. As I've a tonne of 20-30cm deep signals. But I definitely don't do plugs - slit holes are the way with a sheet for dirt.
But I conceal it in my backpack & venture out from 1-4am, usually sun to wed (quiet nights).

I can't even spot my own filled holes, though the deeper ones are getting a little messy - spade will be cleaner.
