Was given a detector that was going to be sent to the "Op shop"

This is my 1st attempt today in Rotorua. Thought I would try children's playgrounds that have bark surfaces. I'm over the moon with results.
$18.40 in coins, 1 junk ring and lots of other junk. Put a lot of junk in the rubbish but brought some home to show the other half.

Look at that - It's already returned more than you paid for it ! :)
A short google hints that the Vikings (detectors, not the hairy dudes) aren't laughed at on the web, and seem to be reasonably respected.
Good score.

I love the look of that detector. Haven't seen a Viking in ages... Around the 5th century I say? Ha ha

Heh! The old viking is easy to use but it wont detect our gold. Tried it out on a small amount of fine flakes of gold but nothing. Any ideas?

Well your old Viking really outdid my $2200 Deus Xp today. Lots of rubbish and a current 10 cent piece. Haven't been out in ages and then started to rain. Oh well, I could still tick off a geocache at the spot. So not a total waste.

Well done

Most detectors like that don't detect gold. You should try gold bug or something, but I don't know anything all that great. The minelab GX is good and so is the garret.
