I just spotted this link on another forum http://www.gumtree.com.a...al-gold-lease/1115861858
Do any of you chaps know if there is any gold there? I was not aware that there was any gold along the east coast up this high?
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

I've been wondering about that claim for years. I remember reading somewhere that that they used to mine Birdlings Flat back in the day, but it was pretty poor.

Would love to see the report hatter. Cheers.

A half million ounces on a central canterbury beach (or close enough to one), being marketed not to New Zealanders but to a potentially lower information Australian market, I am thinking what you are thinking with this one Mathias, not the first great swindle pulled on overseas investors in this great land.

It could be connected but I really do struggle to believe it could be connected in anyway to the gold lodes up the Wilberforce / Inland Westland gold field, despite it being located downstream its still a very long way for gold to have travelled, I honestly believe if there was a half million ounces then it would have been known about 150 years ago, the old timers looked everywhere and it has been seen that it did not take them much to get excited about and rush to the next big field duffer or otherwise.

If you could email me through that report then I will try and get it hosted and post a hyperlink for all interested.

I worked out it was something along the lines of 27.8m deep you would have to dig and 165 years non stop to mine it at 100cubic metre a hour, .108g cubic metre over the lease area,
All the test were from testing the top of the sands no drilling ect... To me I would say there is 33,000oz max If the gold was there

had a pan up the Rakaia gorge today. nothing serious. just a few pans here and there. among crevices. by the water edge. in hollows. you get the general idea. results after 2 hours..........ZERO.. nice afternoon out though. looks like its back to Goldsborough.
