Hey guys ive been hunting amongst the bush at my favourite local park for a while now. Ive hunted out most of the lawn area so am resorting to the harder stuff. When I say bush i mean proper bush with heaps of undergrowth and crap so its hard going. Anyway I should really have been studying but i was too sunny so i went out for a look. Got 13 silver coins in 2.5 hours which is a personal best. 30 coins all up mostly pennys an half pennys back to 1875. The silver included an american quarter dollar 1920 which is unexpected and cool. So basically i think it pays to hit those annoying spots.

first photo is all the coins other 3 are close ups of half crown and quarter dollar

I went out with 1864hatter, and was impressed with his goldbug, and his techniques. My Minelab sovereign GT could go deeper but the goldbug with the small coil was brilliant at pinpointing, and its readout was very good at identifying what to dig and what not to dig. 1864hatter said the bug wasn't so good at coping with wet sand, compared with mine which is very stable on wet or dry sand. Overall I thought the goldbug a very good machine. I'd love one! 1864hatter shared his fav spot with me which was very generous. Here is a coin I heard deep and 1864hatter dug for me. I felt guilty seeing it was so good. a 1912 half crown. I cleaned it with toothpaste.

great find tonznz...ya the gold bug is good..i havnt tried it on wet sand yet..but i think i will be next weekend...hahaha...as far as identifying what to dig and what not..you need to get use to the different sigals and what they could be first...hahahaha i know a few of the signals but not all yet..
but even they can be tricky...my solid 79 is usually one of 3 things...0 to 3 inch deep..gold coin spendable..4 inch or deeper 1 cent..but also solid 79 can be a twist top drink lid..but it gives off a slightly higher pitch if twist top.

Yep. Today is a detector-free day. Nothing gets in the way of me watching Bathurst.

1864hatter, it was great meeting a fellow hunter gatherer. I still think the first spot had potential for another hunt. I might have to visit the hocken and look for old photos of the site, to get a better idea of times past. I'd love to go out again. Keep in touch. Good luck with your upcoming exams too. I'm at varisty this thursday at the uni market selling books at my stall.
