Somehow I think I would keep the whole claim well and truly at arms length - there can be a certain amount of gold estimated to be there but recovering it is another question entirely - the cost of the claim may not appear to be much when we take the price of gold into account but the cost of plant and recovering the gold may be far more than it is worth....not for me thanks.

Um keith you have the wrong river this river is on the Waiau river not the Wai-R-au river in Marlborough. It seems riduculous to me that they claim there is 37kg of gold on their claim. How much of that is realistically recoverable, how do they know what gold values will be like in all areas and if there are indeed 37k of gold and its worthwhile to mine it why not do it yourself.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

There is gold there all right, but I doubt that much is recoverable unless you turned every stone over and used mercury. Lammerlaw is on the money..

she's a big deep river the waiau. well it used to be even bigger.

as hatter pointed out the 37kg of gold seems a bit of a statement. maybe they should have said 50kg. some big fish there anyway.

kiwikeith: it's always been bloody confusing to me also with those 2 rivers being so closely named. only clicked when you mentioned tophouse.
