Hey all Someone suggested a Fisher forum so here it is! We can share stories and frustrations as well as target ids and finds. I plan on going out today for a rummage at the beach to see what I can find.

What about the 50, 20 & 10 cent pieces? will you still pick them up? cause I find them around the 09 target id.

Anyone else get really frustrated when their Goldbug goes crazy on black sand? Bloody annoying when youre going over a likely looking crevice and all you get is signals from the damn stuff but you got to dig it cos it might be flake...

F2 ID test

Well here is the Air test with my F2 on some of the coins I had lying around. All the ID's that are in quotations are weak readouts and all the ID's without the quotation marks are the strong readouts. I noticed the main reason for the difference in some of my threepence coins was due to a differing weight, not size. So a threepence which weighed about 1.2 was a 37 but a threepence weighing it's normal 1.41 weight was a 40 "42." All these tests were done at 4 inches away.

Lets start with the gold coin we all hope to find:
Coin | Weight | ID
1/2 Sovereign | 3.9g | 37 "39"

Silver coins 50%
Coin | Weight | ID
1/2 Crown | 13.6g | 74
Florin | 11.1g | 73 "71"
Shilling | 5.4g | 65
Sixpence | 2.7g | 54 "52,51"
Threepence | 1.41g | 40 "42,37"

Silver Coin .999 (just in case ;) )
Coin | Weight | ID
1/2 ozt round | 15.55g | 94 -> 97

I hope that those who have an F2 find this info helpful... I will be planning to do a live test by digging a hole and placing each coin in the hole to see what the readout will be. When I get around to it I will run the test and post the results. Cheers!

Thats very cool thanks man...I've always wondered what a gold coin would ring up as...is it real solid tone I presume? I guess the pinpoint button would make it sound huge?

the 18ct ring I found was solid 32
Krystals large mens 9ct ring is solid 54

I am running an f2 with an 11" DD too. Yeah I found that gold will ring up between tab and zinc... but if it's weight is less then about 2 grams it will ring up in the 20's under nickel. It really depends on the weight more than the alloy of the Gold I've found. Like this 9 kt gold heart (really thin) weighing about 1 gram was IDing at 25... but then again it was only worth $22.00-$30.00 and when you think about all the foil you would dig up it might not be worth the time. small earnings would be in the nickel category too...

Having a Fisher Thread., *8^) it's detector brand discrimination (bad joke I know).
Seriously though what do you guys think of the f2/f4 for beach use ?
From what I've read there doesn't seem a massive amount of difference between the f2 and f4 except the f4 has the DD coil and adjustable ground balance. Does that make the F4 better for the beach ?
It seems this thread has many of the forums 'Heroes' with some awesome finds, who no doubt know their gear very well so it should be a good place to ask.

Cheers guys.

I've edited this post as it seems it may have got backs up and that was never the intention, was only wanting your valued opinions.

Ok there was a minor amount of leg pulling in fun, but it's a genuine question.

Guard,

I am attaching a chart that shows exactly what the difference is between the Fisher detectors. Hope this helps.

Thats probably why as soon as I swapped to the F2 from my $150 special detector, I stopped finding them! I have never dug a target with id that low. I sometimes find them right near the surface as the bounce around the 60's sometimes especially the 10c pieces.

Man its hard to find a park in Chch without any plugholes!

Yea I have since discriminated out everything below the tab function.. occasionally I will keep nickel on. I find that this helps me spend more time on the "good stuff" an get less junk.

My F2 came with a 11" DD coil... I got it from kelly co detectors. was a good deal and WAY better than my $100 ($30 on sale) Chinese made detector.

I am eyeing out the minelab e-track as my next goal... I saw it in action and with all it's customization and depth with an optional 18" DD coil... it nearly took my breath away! I will have to save up my finds for a few years to afford it... lol! I am still saving up for the garrett propointer... and I am almost there!!!
