Hi

Can anyone please offer me some clarification as to the benefits of the older vlf/tr deepseeker units over the more modern detectors?

The reason I ask is that it appears from posts i have read here that "old technology" cannot compete with the new machines (which i can understand) -

However when I read through US forums and the likes, the old school diggers swear by the older units ...........

What are your thoughts and experiences?

I have a mint ADS DeepSeeker that I am sure if I put in the time, will no doubt work well enough..................but will it do as well as what we have today or should I let it go?

Gidday sycotoad

Once upon a time the Garrett Deepseeker was the bees knees. There is a lot of info on line about them and I think that they were better in parks than at the beach. I don't think they handled mineralisation that well. Good luck with it though. Detectors are like everything else electronic you buy. It's already going out of date by the time it appears on the shelves. There will always be something better that can detector smaller objects at increased depths with greater sensitivity and discrimination. But it still comes down to the person using it.

Have fun though

I got a Garrett Deepseeker ADS back in 1980 or 81 - I paid it off in no time - it is a great machine - mine has a few faults now but for parks, camp grounds and so on its tremendous and in picnic grounds today would still prefer it to my big heavy Minelab...every time.

At the same time Dad got a Whites 6000 - it is still more or less brand new in its box at his place!

one site mentions 100000 oz of gold. http://www.otago.ac.nz/g...students/ford/index.html
Got to love Google, there is quite a bit of information about the place. I don't have fond memories of the place, I did an escape and evasion exercise down there a few years ago. Bloooody rugged terrain to run around in but at the end of it certainly felt like I had achieved something. Didn't know about the gold down there then.

Looks like it might be worth a scratch around

I know what you mean - I got me some black sand off the gemstone beach after the last storm to run through my newly made recirculating sluice & by crikey .................. not easy for a blindman lol

found this "In 1888 the famous Longwood Gold Nugget weighing 36oz was found in this area."

Hopefully I can find just a little nug this summer (it will be my first)

Walking streams through the bush is currently gold to me

thanks for the input guys

As you can probably tell I am kinda new to this, but my motivation is certainly fueled by previous diggers

I will scratch around here because its my backyard & accessible, but cant wait to get up central over the summer

If anyone would like a hunting buddy for a day out anywhere give us a yell

I am keen to learn
