I saw somwhere that a magnet in the sluice helps catch gold. Does anyone know anything about the science behind this?

Hi from what i have been reading some people put magnets at the start of the sluice box to catch the black sand as it goes past. however bit of gold can get caught between the black sand (so im not sure how well it can work)
I saw a video on youtube the other say with someone doing it on there dredge. he had 3 magnets at the start of the sluice to catch the black sand running through it.

Yeah. Helps stop the iron sands from clogging up the riffles - so you can go longer before needing to do a clean-out.

Hi Lo ppl
I know several ppl that have used magnets to catch the blacksand before it gets into your riffle on your sluice.
If you are in an area with lots of blacksand it can be a big help, but if you are in a spot with fine to very fine
gold you can lose it in the blacksand. This happens when the blacksand becomes magnetic and it can catches the fine gold in small clumps of sand and it makes it very hard if not impossible to remove the gold. So it has it's good points and bad points.
