That exactly what i was thinking with ANdrew- order 10000 of them for like 100$ from china, then sell as after market 3 for 5$ or something.

I have sent them email with inquiry

$5???? These are for Minelabs - try 3 for $15 & they will still be a lot cheaper! :)

What are those 2 black things in the Minelab packet - anything needed?

That could be the start of a good idea, but not insulation tape. Too messy and not really waterproof.

http://www.surplustronic...7-self-amalgamating-tape

This is the stuff you should use - you stretch it out to about 150% of it's normal length as you wrap it, and then it binds to itself after you get past 1 turn of tape. Used a lot in ham radio etc for waterproofing antenna connections. When you unwrap it afterwards (or cut it away) it doesn't leave any glue residue.

That'll keep the sand away from the o-ring.

While you're picking it up from surplustronics, you can pick out my chrissy present. :)

I hope Max's problem is only the debris as it seems that design is prone to fail (lets face it, it's not easy to keep water out) so anything extra to keep out the water would be a good idea.

If it was leaking it would be a different story as even wrapping would be a challenge with those battery clips.

The Saga has ended with the call from Minelab (as i expected)
With reassurance that they are working on the problem and that they have received a lot feedback

Anyway - my set of O-rings is on the way from AU to me now .
