Hi all-anybody know which tributaries of the Baton the old timers worked? Been gazing at the map today and theres heaps to go at but dont want to waste my time and energy panning on a creek with no yellow in it!

Gidday Overdog. It's been a few years since I was last there, but go up Baton River Road for about 12km. You come to several cribs and the road splits. The left hand road crosses the Baton river at a ford. The straight ahead road continues up the Ellis River. I've been told there is no gold up there. The big open area by the intersection apparently used to be a racetrack. Go across the Baton. The track continues beside the Baton River for about 3km. Just past the end of the road, a swing bridge crosses the river. I think this is one of those areas where the harder you work the luckier you get. I've only made a couple of quick visits to this area. You can find colours upstream along the Baton from the intersection with the Ellis. Apparently upstream from the swing bridge is better, but I haven't tried there. Spoke to a chap who had been using a suction dredge and he had some mice small nuggets. There was a big flood there a year or two back that should have stirred everything up. It's a nice place on a fine day. Wish you luck.
