Always handy to have a topo map handy when you're in the bush looking for gold right. Keep yourself from getting lost, marking where nuggets were found, etc...

Have you got a Windows Phone 8 device? I'd be keen to get some early feedback on the NZ Topo Map app I'm developing for the platform.

You can grab the app here:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-nz/store/app/nz-topo-map-beta/b861ab51-a68d-456f-9ae4-cbed66736b36

The app is a work-in-progress, but I've released it early as I'm keen to get feedback to make sure features work as expected on different devices. I also want to hear about any issues / niggles experienced so I can create something useful and easy to use.

I've been taking the app offline on bush trips myself and it seems to be performing well so far.

Current functionality:
• Map caching for offline use.
• Show current location.
• Create waypoints.
• Share / email waypoints as links.
• Record your tracks.

Planned functionality:
• Share tracks as GPX or KML files.
• Compass.
• Location search.
• Map caching in background.

BTW: I'm also been improving the mobile version of www.topomap.co.nz which can be found at m.topomap.co.nz.

Cheers,
Gavin

BTW: You can now download the complete North or South Island to the NZ Topo Map app for Windows Phone for offline use when you're in the bush.

Nah, sorry mate - no iPhone version. Though I may do one if I can find the time.

Interesting about the cold causing phone to shut down - not heard of that one before. I tend to keep most of my prospecting to the warmer times of the year though :P
