Here we have a very interesting looking piece of vein quartz. Obviously the white stuff is the quartz, the other stuff is reddish brown chert also known as jasper as far as I know. The interpretation is that the chert had a fracture/fractures in it which were intruded by silica bearing fluids that deposited the quartz in the fractures. Known as wall rock inclusions these fragments are very common in veins but this one has a lot more character than most. Just one thing could make it more interesting and that's if it were to contain some gold!!
