My first real find out of my own garden. Think its silver glass broken. Have no idea of age. Going to try uploading a photo.

Nice. Has the hinge broken or corroded?
Is the photo inside visible at all (or degraded)?

Great find Snow drop.
Any hallmarks or 925 stamp on it?

Thanks for your interest. Catch broken. In fact just in two bits with a small ring which I imagine would have he'd photo inside. Can't see any markings. In fact too scared to do too much with it, as I haven't had s lot of luck cleanings finds.

A good start is just warm water with dishwash and an old toothbrush.
Then a soak in white vinegar cant do much harm usually. Got a feeling
you will find it is copper judging by the colour of the lid. If the vinegar turns
light blue that would confirm it.

Good luck.

Congrats on a sweet find there snowdrop. A nice little momento from your properties past I'm guessing. Would be cool if you were able to link the pic in the locket to a past owner.

Cool find to find in your own back yard. Fairly hard to clean/restore items like that. Sometimes they are best cleaned with water and left as is. Keep searching and good luck out there.

Yep, don't be tempted to force it open (yeah, right). It's far better to have an intact locket permanently closed than a pile of pieces.

I've got one that I had a pick at, but it'll never open again - Intriguing not knowing what's inside...

Too late. Glass broken when found then it basically fell apart. The land had an old workers cottage from original chch settlers as it's not far from Bealey av. So, I imagine it was pretty old.
