Just picked up this wee pick from Bunnings after being out on a mission with a friend who's got one.

A good we option for detecting and cracking open crevices etc. in bedrock...

That's a flash looking pick Gavin. Bunnings do have some good deals at ok prices.

I still have a pick another member here made for me to test. Clutha Pete. It's pretty simple but has been really useful. I did bust the wooden handle once but easily fixed. My fault as i was trying to lever too big a slab off the fault.

I find a longer length very useful as i can use it like a walking stick whilst walking up and down the steep stuff to keep balance, but the best thing with a longer length pick is driving it in and using it to haul myself plus gear up stuff i would otherwise struggle on.

It's a pretty simple design, using an old shovel handle i think, and the pick end is an old car spring shaped to a point. I even use it underwater to pry rocks and its a good sniping tool using it on its side to rake off gravel and cobbles.

The worst tool i ever bought was a cheap $20 grubber from the warehouse. the welds were so lightweight my mate bust it on the first average sized rock he tried to pry.

The pick you mentioned looks good and with a fibreglass handle should absorb some of the shock when whacking rock. Only drawback i can see is a shorter pick won't have the same leverage as a longer one, and you'd have to be closer to the work face. A better option though for tight spaces.

Thanks Gavin - I been looking for a smaller option -

My modified $20 warehouse grubber has been going well and I have been hammering the shit out of it too -

Well - Mine paid for itself before I left the shop.
I happened upon the wife of my former boss at the cafe. Now these ratbags owe me a considerable amount of wages...
I'm not sure if it was the sight of me or more to the point me sitting there admiring the sharp end of the mattock but the area certainly became vacant quickly. Don't worry I'd never physically hurt anyone I've well and truly grown out of those types of shenanigans, however in a brief moment of fantasy I did conclude that the pointy end of this tool would be rather useful for helping the aeration of the before mentioned's BMW....ponders..hmmmm.

On a more relevant note.

Cheers Gavin as the staff had a little trouble locating the product (there was only one left and in the gardening section) having the link on PD made it nice and easy for me to show them and once again at the checkout as it had no sku on it. Ta

Anyone here know if Bunnings will open a branch in Otautau? hehe
