Found my first specimen whilst out detecting last weekend. I wasn't having much luck with my detector finding only one small piece earlier that day. So I decided to open up a likely looking crevice, however the loose wash suggested someone else had beaten me to it. Put the detector through it and got a good gold signal. I flicked out all the overburden thinking any gold would be wedged down in the crevice. Rescanned the crevice to find the signal had gone. I then checked the overburden i discarded to reveal a 2.5 gram specimen. Pretty stoked not sure how much gold is in it but a similar sized piece of quarts weighed around a gram.

The other photo shows my finds over the last year or so (50 grams). I've had a detector for a bit over a year now and most of the bigger pieces have been detected. I hope to above two ounces before winter sets in !

Hey Gold Bug- great finds there for sure!
What region are you in? (not asking for any secret spots).

Ive recently bought a Garret AT Gold (have pans and backpack sluice too) and looking to give it a good work out.
If you ever a need a tag along buddy in the later future - let me know ...... I have just had two SI trips this year (from Auck) so wings are a little clipped atm.

Fantastic specimens!

Greg.

Nice one, I am still to find a specimen... I have found one tiny one but one like that would be nice.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Hi Greg, I'm in Marlborough. Next time your heading south feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks Hatter, well I'm yet to find a 1 ounce nugget! Found a few new spots if your keen to meet up for a detecting mission next time you're down south.

Hey Gold Bug,
Thanks! - I will do that next time I get a chance to head down that way. Ive got an old mate in Havelock that I go hiking with occasionally and had a great time doing the tracks around Lake Chalice and Goulter river 3 years ago. I imagine the goldy areas are more likely in the northern Marlborough zones.
Keep up the great discoveries!
Greg.

Gidday, I'd like to give my XP Deus a run sometime, so if you want to catch up, let me know. Only gold I find is in Murchison amongst the moss and crevices
