Cheers flintlock. got my hands on that copy. I seem to be building quite the collection. was sticking to the NZ books relating to gold but there are some good ones about the same in the US. Another great read is "Klondike" by Pierre Burton. Not a treasure ship but another great book of gold history. Quite a big book, detailing especially the efforts of people just trying to actually get to the Klondike. Surprisingly at the start of the rush people were booking passage when no one really knew where the rush was. Eventually a few routes got established but the goal for many in the end was just to get to the Klondike. Many gave up or never made it. Many others never got there in time. Some even got frozen in boats on the river which was the 'highway' to the Klondike.
