The guy in this video has used aquaseal over the buttons and speaker to waterproof his x-pointer for scuba diving.
https://youtu.be/BZCrKhciTUU
Has anybody tried this or got any better ideas on how to waterproof one for up to 10 metres depth.

Wo, 10 meters a long way down. What about a couple of plastic seal bags, one inside the other type thing.

I sealed mine in a couple of vacuum bags which worked okay to a couple of m, but doesn't take much to breach the defences.
If you're at 10m, you'll be on Scuba, so surely it'd be easier to fan and scoop? No-one will be stepping in the holes afterwards...

Gave waterproofing the xpointer a go today.
Disclaimer: the following will probably viod any warranty.
There are 5 places that need to be sealed
1-on/off switch
2-tone switch
3-speaker
4-battery cover
5-led.
First I disassembled the xpointer by removing the battery and smacking the base firmly on a wooden surface. I only did thisas my battery holder had broken loose and a bit was rattling around causing falsing.
Then I sealed around the switches with aquarium silicone.
Ditto speaker.
Battery cover I used plumbers thread tape on threads and then alayer of silicone over the join.
Last of all was the led I tried removing the bulb cover but it was in tight so I just slathered silicone over the bulb cover and hope it works.

Just need now to fit a lanyard and weight it for negative buoyancy.

This waterproofing attempt was a total failure once the silicone got wet it peeled straight off fortunately I was still on the sand.

Try Sikaflex - not sure which one I used previously on the Garrett, but it's black, gets everywhere and takes something like 24hrs /mm thickness to dry.
Was a major effort to peel off last week, after a year or so of regular use.

Sikaflex product referred to previously is Sikaflex 221

Degrease with acetone (sparingly)
Key surface lightly
I flamed mine quickly with a blowtorch (from previous experience trying to bond to LDPE) Can skip if never done it before
Apply 221
Tool to shape

Set aside for a week to cure (for thin skin)

Not cheap and very slow to cure, this stuff. 1 day per mm thickness from memory - more in colder temps, but most durable "silicone" I've found.

Westie's looking for 10 metres. The Garrett will be a spirit level by then.

Probably the only capable machine at the moment would be the Vibraprobe 580

Suppose I should read the whole thread next time....
I struggle to see why you would need a pinpointer ten m under water. If at the beach it's easy to fan a hole in the sand or gravel and watch the target appear. If you are after nuggets in water that deep then either they are in a crevice which in itself is a guide or they are going to be quite big if you have detected them and will be easy to see. Detectors that go to ten m tend to be not the most sensitive to small nuggets.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!
