Hey Guys and Gals my names Will and I'm new to this whole searching for gold thing and was wondering what a good metal detector would be below $200 to start with and where to buy them? Also a gold panning kit? Thanks

don't think you would get a good detector for under $200. $400 - 500 would be more like it and for pans etc try trade me. a trader called danidor is good value. really nice guy to deal with and quick on deliveries.

Hi there Bulksguy. The Fisher F2 may be a great start out detector. You will have to save a few extra pennies but well worth it. Try the guys at Puiaki Supply. They are NZ Fisher dealers and provide a very good service.
Happy hunting and good luck out there.

As the guys said, $200 won't get you much in the way of second hand gen purpose detectors, let alone a 'hot' machine for gold.

I'd start with the panning, and see if you get the bug sufficiently to take it further - never know, first day panning could pay for a detector :)

All the best with the panning Bulksguy......interested to know where Coronal is? - A place with nice Mexican beers? or a really, really hot place that will melt your gold specs into full on bars ?
Any of the DOC fossicking areas are worth a shot to get your teeth into in a safer, legal way. Perhaps the Northern South Island areas now- unless you have wetsuit/boots and or like cold water........

Cheers, Greg.
