Hi all,
I purchased a Surf Pi 1.2 kit from E-bay last week for a bit of a project as i need a PI for the beach,( same as Whites surf master)
The workings of the detector itself is made, so all I had to do is do a bit of research on coil building.
After a few proto types i am pretty pleased with the results:
Air test can pick up a NZ $2 coin at 310mm,
Small fine silver ring @ 250mm
Penny at 310mm.
The detector has no discrim and only basis functions:
Sensitivity and volume, there is delay and offset which are on the PCB so no really ideal to adjust out in the feild.
I hope to get out to some hot beach ground this weekend for a swing.
All up the cost was $75;00 for the made up board and $ 15:00 for the coil with wire left to make a few more,
on that note the OHMS are still not quite wright with the coil so might be able to get a bit more depth out of it with a better coil.
Would be great to hear from any one that has had a go at coil making for this kit.
Roll on summer
Happy detedting
Steve

Hi there,
the kit cam from E-Bay .com,

If you enter Surf PI 1.2 it will put you on to the seller who is Electronicportugal, he has one on there for US$ 75.00, a bit more than i paid.

So far I am more than happy with the unit, from some reading i have done they perform well on the beach.

All up it will o me around $100, not bad for a PI machine.

Cheers
Seve

Hi there Overdog,

In a nut shell CRAP!

It lacks sensitivity big time to small targets,

Am playing around with a few coils so might be able tweak it a bit more to get some more sensitivity out of it,

Looking forward to to heading up the Waka so as it warms up a bit,

Cheers

Steve
