A picture says a thousand words so I won't ramble.
Basically 100 percent non metallic 750 x 750 over main screen (excluding outer noodle) main screen also has a noodle inside pvc pipe.
Three screens in total, smaller inner screen has a small strip of noodle attached to help keep it clear of lower screen.

The screens are plastic netting and gutter guard (two types)
It seems to work pretty well and traps pretty much everything. There are lots and lots of different designs on the net. I guess main negative with this one is its a bit awkward to get to the h2o as well as carrying detector etc.

Cheers Iggy

Three layers of mesh overkill?
What is your view on a round design?

Neat DIY, although I found them more hassle than their worth, preferring the scoop.
I do like the Pointer holder though - That's class. :)

Scoop, check hole, if signal still there dump scoop, repeat.
Signal absent in hole - it's either in the scoop or washed away in which case junk tab. Move on.

I find spending the extra few seconds getting a good fix on target location/depth pays off in the long term - always aim to get it in the first scoop.

I'm hearing you I've made about three different types of sifters in the past, this one works the best.... But it can get it the way at times.
When I get back to some clear water I'm going to have a wee try with the Snorkle and fanning the targets for a change.
I'm not quite a hundred happy with my scoop still having lots of trouble getting the targets out, tried most of the tricks, some help some don't.
I believe something a bit wider and flater in the mouth may help. I guess practise, practise and more.
Cheers Iggy

I find the three layers quite good obvoiusly all progressively getting finer. I mainly just flip the coarse upper over fairly often and only check out the lower ones when finished or full. But if you know how to locate your target and scoop properly as MW suggested, it's the way to go.
Round vs square?

Round would float better, but if not done properly will tip around. I'd say square is best, and this design is super good, doesn't have any issues and looks really neat. I like it as it is. Keep up the good work and hopefully we can see some more :)

Oh, now I understand how it works.

Round one might be more difficult to construct...
