Over the holidays I noticed someone using a solid steel scoop to prospect in a river rather than the usual perforated sand scoop used by detectorists.lt looked like a good idea for gold as it wouldn't escape through the holes . However when I looked on the net I couldn't see any. Does anyone know where to buy these?

No, you definitely need holes in your scoop when looking for gold. If there are no holes you run the risk of retaining undersized nuggets. As I am sure you are well aware there are severe penalties for keeping undersized gold.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

But Hatter, "...All manual retrieval containment systems must incorporate escape holes not exceeding 7.5mm and no less than 4mm and constituting a minimum of 30% of total wetted surface area to permit undersize gold to be returned to natural source"

I've been told that hole validation gauges are readily available from DOC field offices - I asked my local DOC but they didn't have one. Could I borrow yours?
