Historical Claim maps/documents

I'm a geologist doing some non gold related work down here in Central, however there are some old tailings on the property I'm working on. My question is, what kind of documentation went along with any mining back at the turn of the century? Will there be any maps or written material or...well, anything. I called in to Cromwell museum last week and they had nothing, apart from an old map of dredging claims on the wall, one of which was in the vague area I'm looking at. Any further info to help me unknot the geology is going to be helpful, hence the question.....I'm down there again tomorrow and have a chance to talk to the landowner, whose family have farmed there for generations - what's the chance he'd have anything? Not being a mineral geologist, I'd no idea what was in that part of the NZPaM archives.....
