yep same size slighty different sharp end but yes very similar, may have to order one from miners den. unless there is someone in nz about to give up this stupid hobby and wants to sell their pick?

as far as i know these picks are as rare as hen's teeth in nz. anyone that has one prob has it for detecting and not so keen to offload.

i have been keeping an eye out on trade me, have looked in various shops etc and never seen one for sale.

only place i know you can get them is miners den. yep, postage not cheap.

maybe have a go at somewhere like bunnings. they're australian so you'd think they'd stock them. i'm sure they could be used for other purposes.

a bit like geologist's hammers. no one seems to stock them.

Why don’t you blokes just go to a “Warehouse” store and buy a “Westminster” brand light grubber with a sort of “Pick” on the end?

Take it home, and just grind it to a satisfactory shape, cut the handle down to size, recess the end, and glue a suitable "Super" magnet into it--Quite easy to do!

There so cheap to buy, you can loose, or ruin them somehow and not be concerned about it.

This is a tip from me.

Cheers---Colin.

Hi guys, i made my own after not being able to find a suitable one anywere, it took about 1 hour to
manufacture made the blade out of 6mm plate steel cut to shape with cutting wheel on grinder and heavy walled tubeing(i used rollcage tubing as i had a bit left over) mig welded onto blade for handle to attach to.

I think it would you next to nothing for a couple of bits scrap from your local engineer if dont
have any steel laying around.

Cheers

Jesus Starflash!

If you could bend the blade on one of these grubbers with your bare hands, then you would be in worldwide demand as a "Strongman"?.
These things are made of about aleast, "5mm" thick heat-treated steel.

Cheers and regards---Colin.

Hi John.

I guess that you bought the wrong sort of grubber from Bunnings and/or Mitre 10.
My suggestion was to get the "Westminster" one from the Warehouse.

I think that you're talking about those little triangle shaped "Light"
gardening ones that they sell, with which you'd have trouble trying to bust up hard clay stuff.

Cheers and regards---Colin.

Hi JW some great posts.I have looked at those Westminster & I can not imagine they would be up to making a serious hole.
Me & my mate dug an 8ft hole with Welcos going through the side wall of a dry water course between a couple of mulloch heaps in Dunolly Victoria Aussie. They did an awesome job hard work & extremely hard packed wash.
We were on gpx4500 with little joey coil, digging then swinging after very 5-6 inches. At about the 6ft mark we got a fantastic signal which could have only been a good lump!!!I remember my partner looking at me with adrenalin surging saying "weve done it weve done it".
Another 10odd inches later & we are stareing at a 5 inch piece of folded iron S%#%!!! gutted that ended the day.How it got down there is baffling.
We were in an area where many 100+ ounce nuggets had been found.
Any way I`m raveing now.

Go Hard
