Hi Guys Ordered my new Pro Pointer from Predator Tools (found the link somewhere on this forum, Thanks to whoever that was). Cant wait till it arrives, hoping there will be less abandoned holes from now on!

I did try one of the cheap Trademe pointers, thought it may get me by for a few months. Basically when I go out it stays behind, it is not worth a knob.
If anyone else is considering one, don't waste your money on the cheapies.

Does anyone out there have any tips on looking after the Garrett Pro Pointer, ie dirt/water proofing, general use etc.

Thanks happy hunting

The Garret site has a video that you may find useful.

http://www.garrett.com/h...nter_features_video.aspx

Some of the detector videos also show the Pro Pointers in use.
I seem to recall that some guys on the videos had wrapped their Pro Pointers in tape and a bit of padding to protect them (sorry, not sure what video, but I only looked in the Garret AT Gold section so you might enjoy a wee troll through there anyway).

Edit: Had a quick look and found this, but there are a few tips on You Tube too.

http://www.diy-review.co...Garrett-Pro-Pointer.html

And, here you go...

http://www.trademe.co.nz...es/auction-683249717.htm

There's spray on available too.

Pamela Lesche Enterprises have refunded my Paypal account saying they cant ship internationally.
I have set up a NZ post Youshop account but am unsure how to tie the whole lot togeather.
I was trying to change or add a delivery address on my Paypal account (ie the provided Youshop address but it wont let me add US as a country)
This is all new to me have never used Paypal or Youshop before.

Please help!

Probably why they haven't responded to my email asking for shipping rate to NZ....

If you only have Paypal (and not EBay) then you need to open a separate paypal account using your YouShop address as you can't have two different countries under one account due to banking regs [Source: Paypal Help]

A major pain.

Although, at the very bottom of Predators' main page it says, and I quote:

So, you didn't try here?

http://www.tactical.co.nz/garrett-pro-pointer/

How does the price compare?

My thoughts are that for such a small price why not buy local?
Would you be saving heaps of $$ to make the buggering about with some overseas site worthwhile?

$249 from Tactical, $153(NZD) from Predator. $97.00 difference without taking into account freight (which won't be much because they are a small item). One day Tactical might realise they are losing business because they are so over priced.

KGbee yes I have had a look there but every time I have looked they are out of stock. I do like to support local, but I agree with Shilo on the price diff.
I do see your point though, is it worth all the buggering around because as I am trying to teach my kids 'time is money'
Thanks for your coments

Mudwiggle thanks for the info. The reason they may not be shipping could be the fact it is a Garrett? I was originally going to import an ATPro but recently Garrett wouldn't allow international shipping, so I decided on the F4 from Robert, which I am happy with. One day I may upgrade and keep the F4 as a good secondary machine.

I will have another look at there site and maybe flick them an email.
Cheers

I had a little look at the separate Paypal Account but it doesn't look like an option as the You shop adds several numbers and NZ infront of your name.(your id) when you try to place this under your name in your new Paypal account it wont allow it.

Hmmmm!
Re Shilo's post about the price difference.
OK, add in some freight as well, but what happens to the price if NZ Customs decide to get all bolshy and add on GST plus Customs Duties?
Or do they do that anyway now and the the price saving is still about $97?
Just curious about how much saving there is, not trying to be a PITA to anyone.
I'm worried that any saving could quickly disappear either through NZ Customs or if the Pro Pointer breaks down and needs warranty work.
Do you have to send it back to the USA?
Thanks ('cos I'm interested in one too).

GST won't be charged unless the purchase price + freight is over $400 also no import duty on metal detectors or accessories either (check out the customs website for zero rated goods) so we are still at the $97 saving.

Warranty work is not a problem with Garrett USA - I've had excellent service from them. Cost of freight for sending an AT Pro and a Pro-pointer back to the USA was $50, so just a Pro-pointer should be $20 or less. No Garrett servicing is done in NZ so if you sent it to Tactical they will still have to send it overseas to either the US or Germany and the delays would most likely be longer.

To reach me in a quiet country backwater of NZ
Quick figures (assuming using YouShop, and all in Kiwi $)

From USA
Pointer: $165, incl US freight
Youshop to NZ: $20 (weight assumed to be in order of half kilo)
Total $185, no GST as under $400

From a NZ supplier
Pointer: $249
Shipping: $16.65 ( almost the same shipping as coming from the States...)
Total $265.65

Difference: $80.65

I'd risk a warranty issue for that

Awesome Shilo thanks for the clarity. I have one slight problem I now have Ebay,Paypal and Youshop accounts all of which are unused. I am just having a bit of trouble linking everything together so when I have a second attempt at buying through Predator it will work.
Any help would be appreciated.
