We did a roadie round the Nth Island in January & found these machines on the interislanders, They took a $1 & a 10c & stamped/rolled the name & design of the boat on the the 10c, I was pretty skeptical but you could see the streached outline of the obverse & reverse on the back!

I was up there for work again this week and was standing in that exact same spot on Wednesday while waiting for a boat to take me to a job. I was wondering if it was any good there.
Had no time to have a swing as I was on the clock.
Would have been awesome to see you there.

Hi Westiedigger let me know next time you round, catch up for a chat or detect.
That beach is a nice place to be and the hunting was good the first couple of times. After that i ended up rifling through the spacejunk at the far end to unearth coin. Took forever and ended up with a ton of scrap.
An old timer came along and put me onto a new spot in the area so will go there next. He said he found an old sword there once so sounds like a great place to try.

Got the call from Crisyboy and Ed to go for a hunt early in the morning. The ground was white with frost. Went to the spot where the old guy told me he found a sword some years back and he was right, i found what appears to be part of a sword blade or very large knife. Heavily encrusted but you can make out the detailing of an iron blade. It probably came from the tall ships back in the day and may have sailed the seven seas dealing to many an occasion, or head, or pirate.

Trip # 183

5 goldies, 25 coins all up.
1915 UK shilling
1927 Italy L.5 (silver)
1955 French 100 Francs
1955 NZ Penny
1970 - 2002 US Quarter x 6
19- US Dime
19- US 1 cent

Good results there Creamer.
Did well on the foreign coin count too, were all the US coins in a spill? Seems to be a lot for one general area.
Those scissors look interesting as well, the hinge is well forward of 'modern' scissors, which suggests used for cutting thick materials (leather?)
Be interesting to see the blade and the scissors when they're cleaned up.

I find I'm running in all metal more frequently now, turning up all sorts of interesting iron bits and pieces.

Yes the liberty coins were in a spill and the others scattered around. Near by was a spill of goldies which Ed found. Its a great spot and a mystery as to the why all the foreign coins.
The scissors look like sheet metal cutters and im not sure how to clean up the blade as yet.

P.S I always hunt in all metal mode.

Some of my earlier threads have cool finds, if you go to my Treasure Hunter thread (down at the bottom thread) theres a mix of some of my hunts as well.
I do keep all the space junk i find in a box and is a good soarce of amusement for guests. I like to photo all the junk from each trip as that is a story to tell in itself.
Some prefer to throw it all away as it has no value which is understandable, each to their own.

Another frosty start to the two day hunt with Crisyboy. First to one side of the bay, second to the other side.
Had a great 2 days finding some pennys, a couple of silvers and a couple of silver rings. Found plenty of goldies which went towards petrol, hot chippies, refreshments and more petrol. The highlight of the trip definately wasnt the cooler weather but just being out there with bro hunting. My best find was a 1933 NZ shilling and Crisyboy found a 1917 Aussy Threepence in mint condish.

Trip # 184
3 goldies, 5 - 8 coins all up. 20 odd coins between us.

Trip # 185
6 goldies, 27 - 30 coins all up. Over 60 odd coins between us.
1933 NZ Shilling
1958 NZ Penny
19- NZ Half Penny

Easiest and best way to clean your finds is to soak them in water for a few days and clean off with an old soft toothbrush.

Nice silvers.
Well deserved returns for a decent effort. It's hard going in the Bay at the mo with all the sand that's come in.
What's the small wedge with the rings? Looks to have a reasonable edge on it...?

Not a hundred percent sure but i think the wedge is a splitting wedge. They used a few of them at one time, in sequence, for splitting timber.
Again, just an educated guess. A neat find all the same.

Yes the beaches are tuff going of late.
Most of our last hunt was in the dirt or on a grass field and parking area. If it wasnt for the Xpointer it would have been a tuff day.
