Finally got out for a hunt with another forum member. Tried 3 spots got loads of old decimals, 2 1940s pennies and a gold colour metal lipstick tube labeled CUTEX MADE IN ENGLAND.
nice days hunting and good to meet another keen digger.

Keep trying, there's sure to be some silver there, somewhere...

Shame about the stingy phone owner.

Finally got to have a hunt. Location was a 100year old cottage. Rusty iron and high tension power lines had confounded me there in the past but having tweaked my settings on the ctx3030 and ground balance got me back in business.
Most targets were rusty nails but I did get a 20c old ddecimal.
givgiving up on the garden I started scanning the walls for caches and was rewarded with a possible silver spoon and a little kiwi

Stopped at a supposedly hunted out park tonight to have a looksey and a quick swing.pouring rain and a car surronded by empty codys cans and packed full of angry looking men in the car park didn't make for very comfortable detecting.
thought I'd give it one more target and got a very worn Britannia half penny.
at first I thought it was a young Victoria but once I got it home I could clearly see BRI behind her head.
It's still definitely my earliest coin I just wish I could get a date off it.
sorry about the cruddy photo.

Bigger 'nads than me.
I do a lot of early morning hunts on the beaches up here, and a couple of times that wee warning light in my hindbrain has said, "Not today".
Personally I wouldn't risk it in front of tanked up goons. There's always another day and another place.

Give me 4am in the rain any day - He said, finishing his coffee in preparation for a substantial roadtrip to catch the predawn low in distant lands :)

Congrats on the coin.

Is it thicker than say a Edward VII half penny?

It's probably was about the same thickness as a Edward vii half penny but apears a little bit thinner due to wear. It has a nice patina so I suspect that it is bronze.

Early morning playground bark hunt with my niece who stayed over. Sour puss walking her dog gave us the evils and muttered to herself about calling the police ,
Of course that dogs aaren't allowed on or near playgrounds and that she should really pick up the steamer her dog left over by the picnic tables didn't occur to her. But we had scored a few spends and associated junk so we left anyway. As I looked back her dog was peeing on the swings.

We are laughing about the Crazy eyed dog lady now. But she didn't put too much of a damper on a big and little kids treasure hunt. Niece has happily spent morning fossiking through my big bucket of old decimal and ' other' coins.

Been on the road for work and despite checking out a few promising parks and beaches the finds were mediocre at best with the weekend off I headed to the shillings spot where I had pick up a permission to search a Hundred years old house.
Concentrating on the porch I with permission lifted a few rotten boards here and there.
no coins just 5 butter knives and a very niceold marble.
I think someone else beat me to it.

After lunch and a battery recharge the front lawn of the hhouse gave up a thimble that for now I will call aluminum.
wandering down the road to an abandoned tennis court. I found a 1945 nz penny
handle of a BarW spud gun.
most of a DualTex cap gun and enough spendies and old decimals to make for a enjoyable day. Gave up a it was getting dark.
