It started out like any other day when you plan to go swing the coil. I flicked foiled again a text and we met up at a small local park. We hunted there for an hour or two with very little luck, so decided to move on to another well hunted field some distance away.
We had been there for about 20 mins when I got my first small silver for the day...a 1908 threepence. Very happy to finally be on the board with silver, I continued on for another 15 mins or so, getting nothing much else other than scrap. Then I got this deep, scratchy hit at 7" bouncing around in the mid seventies to early eighties....thought it might be a nice old sixpence.....but I was totally unprepared for what popped out.
As clear as day, at the bottom of the hole was an amazing piece of shiny golden roundness starring back at me. In complete shock, I yelled out to Jason and he came running over. Gently, I lifted it out of the hole and cleaned it off. It turned out to be an 1853 Sovereign in superb condition.
I rescanned the hole, put the plug back in, stood up and moved less than half a metre...and "bang"...same signal again.
Long story short, this happened three times in a row. Number four was the half sovereign, also a very scratchy deep signal. Two rubbish digs in that small patchand then.... sovereign number four.

As I write this, I'm still in utter shock. I'm sure that I will never see this kind of find again in my lifetime. This is the kind of stuff dreams are made of, and certainly one that I thought I'd never achieve.
Just goes to show....it's still all out there just waiting to be discovered.

Happy hunting all :)

FYI.....the hunter in action is foiled again and he had a very sweet bucket list find today too!

Congratulations your golden highness.
(bowing low)

That sure is an extreme result that will probably never be beaten.
I wonder how many other coils have passed over them without registering. :-)

Looking forward to your next trick.

I wonder if a return visit would find the purse they were quite possibly in
before being spread in that small area.

Thanks for your kind words MK. I'm still kind of in denial that this actually happened today. I'm just so happy that I had someone else there to share the moment(s) with......cheers Foiled again. :)

Yes I will go back again, although I spent a good hour grid searching the general area after the last coin, with no further productive hits.

Cheers Roy, the scary thing is.....it's an area that you and I have walked over with our machines many times before. I guess the rain last night must have helped to enhance the signals.

Cheers man. Great to hear from you Chris.....it's been a while.
The pic of Jason is at the first location we went to, not where I found the sov's.
