How deep are your holes on average at this place?
I often go 15-30cm on average soil.

Today I was informed that there was a girl buried somewhere near where I metal detect at the beach!
If I'd dug that up, I think I'd have died.

Not deep at all, the "spot" was a silver utopia with silvers and penny's just laying on the surface, or a quick scuff of the feet to remove leaves, they were even poking out of dirt banks. If we had to dig down, the depth would be no more than 4 inches with the odd few at maximum 6 inches...but sadly the mines running dry now, but good news is I've researched a similar area with the same sort of historical activities..bit further to drive but I'm sure it will deliver, I can already smell the sweet metallic silver nectar calling to me..mmmmmmmmm

Managed a mothers day leave pass for a few hours and met up at "The Spot" with Chrispy and No8wire, it may be my last time there for a while, may try again after some good rains, the place is getting harder and harder, anyhow another 7 silvers including a half crown, the half crown was in a previous hole that I gave up on a month or so back because of it being under a Labyrinth of roots, so sat down, and persevered and glad I did, there was also a wee 6d in that hole.
Happy hunting to you all and the next post will be from a different new area...If I find anything that is.

I hope you have a new spot lined up, I've really enjoyed reading this, and thanks for showing us all the luck you've had - that's quite a haul.
Nice work on that half crown, inspires me to persivere with my own deep targets.

Well done on seven silvers mate. Managed one (yes, one) 1900 widow-head threepence plus a bunch of pennies from my hard worked, 3 hours in the trenches at "the spot".
Looking forward to seeing what our "new spot" will produce!

Mountain Goating the Christchurch Port hills with No8wire looking for possible treasure from the pilgrims who may have lost their loads travelling over the bridal path, wasn't expecting a great deal but did find a 1901 and 1917 penny in the middle of nowhere land so there must have been something going on up there, I'm sure with a little patience, there could be some good stuff to find.
Spent the rest of the afternoon at "The Spot" and managed 7 more silvers and a bunch of old brooches and badges, pennys etc.
1st Photo is mountain Goat no8wire.

I gather you were down on all four hooves to detect 'the spot'

I always envisioned you two with horns (with all the chicken sacrificing rumours).

Geez mate.....once again, the undisputed heavy-weight champion of the Christchurch silver scene...lol
The silver ring looks pretty awesome. The pattern looks quite old. Is it hallmarked?

No hallmarks at all, not even a silver stamp, so don't think its old

Righto, 1st photo is from Friday night hunt in the big park and scored a 1903 25cents from Ceylon ( now Sri Lanka), 1872 sixpence and a shilling.
Then Sunday I went to the "The spot" how ever after struggling for half a day and only managing 3 silvers, I then decided to go on an exploration to an area that I thought would have some potential, and it didn't disappoint, didn't have that long as it was getting late in the afternoon but managed 17 Silvers mostly NZ but did find a 1900 Shielded Shilling.
Also detailed hallmarked silver brooch, another QE2 1953 visit medallion, a wee "not to be taken: poison bottle, gold plated ring, and other bits.
Roll on Next weekend !!
