Not a problem. Here's what he did to a seller himself:

Buyer changed his mind just hours after bidding. Complete time waster. Never had this happen before.

I see both detectors sold at auction. You really have to wonder at Trade Me and why they let the auctions proceed after receiving so much notification about the scam.

Problem is that the guy only had the new listings up for a couple of days which coincided with the weekend. He was probably hoping that Trademe wouldn't get to the complaints until after the weekend and by that time they had sold.

If anybody knows of somebody with a "new" GPX 5000 in Hokitika and in Opotiki then would be interesting if you could find out and post what the condition of the so called "missing" serial numbers are like.

It would be interesting to have them weigh the unit and compare it to a known good one.

If anyone knows these people, Bevan from Hokitika or Keith from Opotiki, give them a heads up not to pay any $$. Complained to TME 5 times and they didn't do anything. They're always happy to collect their fees........

Someone needs to alert the media about Trademe's stance on this. Its f**kn disgusting. I'm so mad that they have let this happen!
There must have been a heap of community watch reports and the questions being unanswered spoke for themselves. How could they ignore this?

Agreed. I contacted TradeMe and they were more worried about my account being in debt than they were about the seller. Pretty much they told me that due to my account being a couple of dollars under they couldn't (or wouldn't) process any feedback, complaints or questions from me.

I tried a second time and was told this:
"If someone was mislead by the authenticity of goods being auctioned/purchased and are unable to resolve the situation by communicating with the seller, then we recommend they file a dispute with the Disputes Tribunal. This costs between $30 to $100, depending on the value of the claim."

It does seem like they're happy to palm it off after they take their cut.

Also, if anyone does make the media aware. Don't pick something owned or operated by Fairfax, it won't ever see the light of day.

If anyone is interested, here is a copy of 1) my notification, 2) their reply, 3) my further query.

I wonder if they will tell me what their appropriate action was?

Hi Svend,

As far as I can see, the items sold at auction for $2430 and $2550
respectively.

If that is correct, then please enlighten me as to what was the appropriate
action that was taken.

Gary

i have just had 2 fixed price offers on the detectors. have also emailed trademe but i think the only way they will take any notice is if they are reported to the police as stolen.

why dosent someone contact minelab? im sure they could do something about trademe assisting the sale of counterfeit goods. or at least failing to act on it once they've been notified hundreds of times.

Wow, at least you guys got a reply from Trademe. We didnt. Not that they cared anyway. I too think Minelab may be interested to know but maybe there's not much can be done to stop it.

Hi gary.Spent $50 in phone calls with no joy so I demanded to speak to someone of their Community Watch .Got to voice my concerns. The Guy Was Arrogant,no it all.I asked him if he would like someone to sell him a fake product as the real thing. He told me i was speculating and if i wasn't happy,I should move on. He was happy to keep the auctions. They still up For offer after close of auction This goes against all their TradeMe Terms and Condition.I always wonder if there's insider trading taking place where by their buddies get preferential treatment and backhands to allow this.I asked him if he would liked to be paid FAKE money for wages. No reply. All we can do is take all information and contact Campbellive or FairGo to set up a meeting with Trademe's CEO

Thanks for you response.Just needed to clarify this.
The confusing part of the counterfeit listings is that TradeMe Team sends gavzilla this message: Originally Posted by: gavzilla Go to Quoted Post

Hi there Chris.I was so Upset about this whole episode but had to keep my cool when i got to speak to one of TradeMe's Team leaders. Arrogant no it all, don't you tell me i'm in charge attitude.I asked him why the seller was reluctant to post the serial no.s for verification"which mysteriously faded on not 1 but 2 machines. He told me they had done all their research and were satisfied and happy to keep the auctions up.That's their Policing Department for you. This person had no people skills and really undermined my intelligence.Told me if i not happy i should move on .I got the impression that he knew more than he was letting on,or just plain naive to the facts.Told him they were fakes to which he responded that i'm speculating. As i've mentioned on other post is that everybody interested should try and get this on Campbellive or Fairgo to weed out this counterfeits.

So here is the reply from Trade me telling me of the appropriate action they have taken.
Reminds me of those Tui adverts

Hi Gary,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm afraid I cannot advise you of any action we have taken against another members account.

While you may not be able to see a change in their account, there are many behind the scenes actions that we can take. These can include warnings being sent, banned from selling, restricting them from buying or using the Q&A etc. So please rest assured that we have taken the appropriate action.

If there’s anything else we can help with Gary, please reply and we will answer your email as soon as possible. Alternatively you can call us on 0900 TRADE (0900 87233). We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please be aware that calls cost $1.99 + GST per minute.

Have a great week!
